The Maryland Public Service Commission is seeking an Investigative Assistant for their Transportation Division.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of Investigative Assistant role is to assist the coordination and participation in the safety andenforcement efforts of the Commission's Transportation Division. This position is responsible for supporting the Assistant Director of Enforcement with completing and managing daily activities, scheduling and communicating with field personnel, developing proactive enforcement and security plans, and coordinating the Division's efforts in the execution of planned activities. This position will also process and monitor the investigation of complaints, assist with the citation process, and provide administrative duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Enforcement.

Position duties include but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of documents related to enforcement activities (citations, testimony, etc.)
  • Data entry
  • Investigation of complaints received by the public
  • Preparation of written reports
  • Investigation of the vehicles and drivers of passenger for-hire carriers which includes cars, limousines, vans, bus services, transportation network companies and taxicabs
  • Serves as a liaison with law enforcement agencies
  • Testify at Commission hearings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes: 
1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Experience testifying in court settings. 
  • Experience in Law Enforcement or conducting investigations.  
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, or other computer based databases.  
  • Experience in customer service.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.
