Main Purpose of Job

The Administrative Specialist II will assist and facilitate the annual physical inventory of assets tracking in MDE’s Inventory Database, surplusing inventoried assets and responding to facilities requests at the Montgomery Park location within the Maryland Department of the Environment. The incumbent will monitor and respond to facilities request at the Montgomery Park main office within the Maryland Department of the Environment. The incumbent in this position will also provide assistance to Central Services staff.


The working conditions of this position involve exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings. This position may require inspection of the interior and exterior of sites during various inclement weather conditions. Work involves exposure to hazardous conditions which may result in injury. The work involves special physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders, etc. This position also requires the use of protective equipment such as goggles, gloves, masks, etc. during site visits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

PERSONAL LEAVE - New State employees are awarded six (6) personal leave days annually (prorated based on start date).

ANNUAL LEAVE - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.

SICK LEAVE – fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.

PARENTAL LEAVE – up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.

HOLIDAYS – State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holidays per year.
