Introduction

The Maryland Commission on Civil Rights (MCCR) is the agency responsible for enforcement of anti-discrimination and civil rights laws for the State of Maryland.  MCCR is charged with investigating and administratively processing complaints that allege discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and the State’s commercial non-discrimination policy.

POSITION DUTIES

Incumbent assists with preparing training materials, helping coordinate training sessions, and supporting trainers during events. This position helps increase awareness of civil rights protections and the importance of positive human relations in Maryland to both internal and external audiences regarding anti-discrimination law as it pertains to Title 20, and the value of diversity to businesses, communities and housing. Incumbent is responsible for identifying and creating partnerships in the counties of our State to support all MCCR training activities to educate the public and MCCR staff in the efforts of reducing discrimination and effecting positive human relations within the State.

Assist with preparing and organizing training sessions and events. Support staff training facilitation and agency events. Assist in developing and supporting training for MCCR staff on prejudice reduction and cultural sensitivity targeted to protected classes as defined in Title 20 to enhance job performance.


  • Help prepare and copy training materials for internal and external events
  • Assist in setting up training spaces, including virtual or in-person settings
  • Maintain an inventory of training supplies and materials
  • Enter training materials onto the agency website (with guidance)

Cultivate external partnerships with business, human relations, and community groups to broaden the agency’s impact and influence in improving human relations within the State.

  • Provide logistical support for MCCR staff training sessions
  • Track attendance and evaluation forms
  • Help gather feedback from participants and organize it for supervisors

Help maintain external contacts and participates in events

  • Help maintain a contact list of community organizations and training participants
  • Assist in organizing MCCR’s participation in community events
  • Help with basic outreach activities like distributing flyers or updating contact info

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of administrative staff work experience.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in General Legal and Administrative classifications or General Legal and Administrative specialty codes in the Legal field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
2. Interest in civil rights, social justice, equity or community engagements.
3. Experience planning, coordinating or facilitating public outreach activities, workshops and educational programs.
4. Excellent organizational skills.
5. Bilingual or multilingual.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
