Main Purpose of Job

To teach Computer Sciences, Graphic Design, Yearbook, Photography and other Digital Arts classes to deaf and hard of hearing 8th - high school students as a part of MSD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) program.

POSITION DUTIES

Teach Digital Arts and Computer Sciences classes to thrive creativity and digital literacy among students and introduce students to potential careers in the fields of graphic design, photography, and computer sciences.

Provide expertise in the area of graphic design and computer sciences; provide instruction using such as but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite and programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.

Coordinate school-wide events relevant to digital media and yearbook projects.

Prepare lesson plans, reports, and keep records of student progress; ascertain learning needs of students and establish evaluation techniques for assessment of progress.

Collaborate with classroom teachers in development of IEP goals and objectives.

Practice bilingual education and concepts with all students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree and Maryland State Department of Education certification as K-12 Deaf Education or Computer Science teacher or the ability to obtain such certification soon after hire is required.

Fluency in ASL and written English; knowledge of the Deaf Community and the ability to teach or work with students of different educational backgrounds and additional disabilities is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Graphic Design, Computer Sciences, or equivalent; experience as a classroom teacher.

Professional training, work experience, and certifications with Adobe Creative Suite Software such as Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) or Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) and/or certifications in coding and programming such as Microsoft Certified.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)

Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation with their application.

SELECTION PROCESS

Preference is given to applicants who already meet the Maryland State Department of Education's designation of Highly Qualified teacher. BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
