POSITION DUTIES
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is seeking
a dynamic and highly skilled Deputy Director, State Board of Education to
provide direct support to the Executive Director of the State Board and members
of the State Board of Education. This role requires a proactive leader capable
of working with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to effectively
advance the mission, vision, and values of the State Board of Education,
including the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and the State Board’s Strategic
Plan.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provides logistical and policy support to key State Board committees, workgroups, and other ad hoc meetings.
- Assists in the organization and execution of various meetings (internal and external) of the State Board, including development of agendas and stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Coordinates a proactive external communication strategy with the Executive Director, members of the State Board, and MSDE leadership to inform and engage the public on the State Board of Education's key priorities, activities, and initiatives.
- Ensures consistency in the advancement of key initiatives of the State Board, including legislative priorities and educational policies set by the Board.
- Conducts research and policy review of key educational policy matters under consideration by the State Board.
- Receives, reviews, and organizes all incoming correspondence addressed to the State Board of Education. Collaborates with the Executive Director and other relevant parties to draft and finalize responses to correspondence addressed to the State Board.
- Assists in the creation of compelling and accurate content for the State Board website and communications materials. Updates and maintains the State Board's web pages to ensure current and accurate information is available to the public.
- Represents the State Board in the absence of the Executive Director or State Board leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s
degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five
years of administrative and/or management experience in an education or related
field/program.
