POSITION DUTIES

The Fingerprint Specialist III performs the advance level of fingerprint work examining, classifying, and 1st stage fingerprint matching Verification Process in the MAFIS 'Lights Outs' workflow structured environment under general supervision. This positions responsibilities also include, performing a 2nd stage Quality Assurance review to determine the accurate release of Criminal History Record Information. Additional responsibilities include: entering text data and determining if print quality is acceptable for processing in MAFIS. This position supports a 24/7, mission critical operation, responsible for processing criminal identifications for LLE units and background checks for CJU & NCJU purposes.

  •  The shift is Tuesday-Saturday (off Sunday & Monday), 2pm-10:30pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience examining, classifying and identifying fingerprints.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in fingerprint identification classification or fingerprint identification specialty codes in the fingerprint identification field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

1. Experience using automated fingerprinting techniques and systems such as Maryland Automated Fingerprint Identification System (MAFIS) and Criminal Justice Information 

System (CJIS) Central Repository.

2. Ability to make positive identifications through fingerprint comparisons.

3. Knowledgeable of criminal history processes

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates for this classification are subject to a criminal records check before a permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction record may be grounds for rejection of the applicant by the hiring agency.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide a telephone number where they can be reached.
