Introduction
The Rural Maryland Council
(RMC) is an independent State agency located at the Maryland Department of
Agriculture in Annapolis, Maryland.
RMC’s mission is to bring together citizens, community-based
organizations, federal, state, county, and municipal government officials as
well as representative of the for-profit and non-profit sectors to collectively
address the needs of rural Maryland communities. The Council provides a venue for members
across the State to cross traditional boundaries, share information, and
address in a more holistic way the special needs and opportunities in rural
Maryland as well as provides two grant opportunities to help rural Maryland be
prosperous with thriving resources, vibrant economies, and healthy connected communities.

POSITION DUTIES
The Administrative Assistant
is an administrative level position with the responsibility of administrative
projects, communications, and performing event planning functions of the Rural
Maryland Council (RMC). This position
reports to the Executive Director as well as providing administrative support
to the RMC Executive Board and committees.
Provides administrative support to the RMC
Executive Director, Executive Board and working committees.
Prepares routine and complex correspondence and responds to requests for information from RMC members, government officials, and citizens.
Administers purchasing processes and maintains inventory of office supplies, equipment, and furniture for purchase and replacement.
Produces the design of RMC communications and reports.
Produces the design and distributes the RMC quarterly newsletter.
Creates RMC routine correspondence and responds to requests for information.
Organizes the planning logistics of council events.
Maintains and post updates to various websites.
Manages other RMC related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school
or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:
1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be
substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or
office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of
thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required
experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to
applicants who possess any of the following preferred qualification(s). Include
clear and specific information on your application regarding your
qualifications.
Experience in utilizing various email platforms (i.e., Constant contacts, Mailchimp, GovDelivery).
Experience in utilizing various WordPress platforms (i.e., WIX and Go-Daddy) for updates and redesigns.
Experience in dictating materials and transcribing notes taken during a meeting, lecture, and conference setting.
Experience with using Microsoft 365 (Word and Excel), and Google Mail.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated ability to accurately type on the
keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be
required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
