The main purpose of this position is to provide secretarial and clerical assistance to the Executive Director, Licensing Coordinator, Health Occupations Investigator, and Committees. This position responds to inquiries regarding the various licenses approved by the Board, provides the primary telephone and other back-up support to the board, as required. The Administrative Assistant handles clerical duties associated with the procedures for the licensure of establishments, crematories, licenses, and new applications in the State. The administrative assistant is also responsible for coordinating Board meetings, transcription of monthly recorded Board minutes, inputting all funds received into the Cash Log system database, providing a detailed agenda for continuing education (CEU) courses for Board approval, updating CEU master spreadsheet for Board website, and various additional clerical duties as assigned. This is an autonomous position that requires strong verbal and written communication skills, including a general understanding of COMAR Title 10, Statue 5, and Statute 7.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework (20% = 1 day a week) which is subject to approval from the supervisor.


Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.


1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  


The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience working independently and making independent decisions
  • Experience and proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience logging and tracking large amounts of data
  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
