Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Performs installation,
removals, maintenance of mobile & portable radios, base stations,
communication consoles, remote control units along with other. technologies
such as in-car cameras, speed control devices, in-car. computers, voice logging
recorders and body worn cameras. Performing. advanced radio programing
utilizing multiple software programs.
Responsible to lead
& guide subordinates in performance and routine maintenance of specialized
technical equipment such as speed control systems, radio, video, and
communication sub-system repairs.
Leads and oversees
shop cleanliness (Ex. dusting/mopping) workload schedules, recording and filing
of all agency records such as capital equipment, maintenance records, shop
requisitions and helpdesk tickets for each shop within the area of
responsibility. Communicates effectively with individuals listed under Part II,
Section 3. Performs duties of Area Supervisor in their absence.
Provides maintenance
& repairs to communication equipment at remote tower sites, including
equipment used for radio communications, fiber equipment. Orders and maintains
a sufficient number of parts and supplies for repair & maintenance
operations of the assigned ESD shop(s).
Maintains the accuracy
of all electronic test equipment within specified limits by the manufacture and
the Federal Communication Commission
(CC). Ensures that all
electronic test equipment certification is current and proper documentation is
maintained.
Provides training and
technical guidance to all technicians and functions as a lead technician on a
regular and reoccurring basis.
Other duties and
assignments assigned by command.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Seven years experience in the repair of electronic communications equipment, six years must have included the repair of two-way FM radios.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the successful completion of a one year program of study in radio electronics at a recognized training school, trade school, or college for up to one year of the required general experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Technician (Communications) classifications or Signal Corps, Aerospace Maintenance, or Data/ Communications Maintenance specialty codes in the aviation communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred
Qualifications:
1. Five years of experience (maintenance and installation) with voice audio transport circuits (DSO) dealing with microwave, fiber optics and T1 backhaul.
2. Experience with P25 Land Mobile Radio.
3. Experience performing maintenance on P25 Communication Console System.
4. Experience
performing repairs/maintenance on any radar and/or laser emitting equipment.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Applicants for this classification may be required to possess either a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator license, a FCC Ship Radar Endorsement, a National Association of Business and Educational Radio certificate, or an Associated Public Safety Communications Officer Incorporated certificate. If required, the applicant must list their license or certificate number and expiration date on the application.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR QUALIFIED and remain

EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will
consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the
requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications
supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all
experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be
given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background
investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
