Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, (MDOL), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Professional I. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to assist in executing the mission of the Department of Labor and achieving the agency's goals. This position is an entry level position. The position is responsible for providing Review Determination letters for employers protesting the assigned tax rate, tax liability and benefit charges. This position reviews and determines accuracy of assigned tax rates, benefit charges, and tax liability to comply with the Maryland Unemployment Insurance Law. This position requires knowledge of various programs within the unemployment insurance program. This position provides support to other Contribution Units with verifying tax rates, tax liability and benefit charges.

POSITION DUTIES

This position reviews, and determines accuracy of assigned tax rates, benefit charges and tax liability to comply with the Maryland Unemployment Insurance Law. This position requires knowledge of various programs within the unemployment insurance program. This position provides support to other Contribution Units with verifying tax rates, tax liability and benefit charges.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs.

Notes:

1. Employees previously hired through contracts by the agency as Intermittent IU Associates, Intermittent IU Specialists, Contributions Associates or Contributions Specialists and are currently performing the full range of UI Professional I duties and responsibilities may meet the minimum qualifications for appointment to merit system positions in this classification.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience applying federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.

Experience with benefits review and determination

Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word

Customer Service experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

Personnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment.
