POSITION DUTIES

Would you like to work in the beautiful City of Towson, Maryland?  Towson is located in Baltimore County and is one of the best places to live and work in Maryland.  Within a 5-mile radius you can visit the Baltimore Inner Harbor, Camden Yards, and the world-famous Towson University.  Not to mention major shopping centers, famous restaurants, coffee shops, and recreational parks.

We are looking for a highly motivated Bilingual (Spanish-English) speaking individual to assist at our Towson Branch Office of the Taxpayer Services Division. This position will assistance at a beginning level of taxpayer service to taxpayers and tax preparers who contact the local branch office through office visits, by telephone and email. This position also includes bilingual/Spanish taxpayer assistance to taxpayers and tax preparers. Responsibilities include reviewing and or preparing appropriate tax returns at a beginning level, providing telephone assistance at a beginning level to all taxpayers who call the branch office and the contact center with questions related to all tax types, accept payments in accordance with Trip 21 procedures at a beginning level, respond to emails regarding tax forms, tax information, adjustments and payment plans to meet the taxpayer service needs of the State at a beginning level, and learn/create basic payment plans according to the guidelines. 

Please Note: Employee must be able to work in a full-time capacity: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a. m. to 5:00 pm. Evening and weekend work may be required especially during peak times of the year. Employee must be able to tolerate occasional uncomfortable or unpleasant experiences presented by upset or irate taxpayers. Work may involve special physical demands such as lifting 25 to 35 pounds, climbing ladders, delivering supplies, etc. Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the requirements of the job or work for private accounting companies. Leave may be limited during certain times of the year due to high volume events, projects or special assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  Two years of experience involving one or more of the following areas: customer service, telecommunications, fiscal clerical or clerical related work.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute additional education at an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty credit hours for one year of the required experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the financial clerical and technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
 ** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must be fluent in Spanish and English (i.e. able to speak, read and write in both Spanish and English). This information must be indicated on the application, and candidates will be required to demonstrate their bilingual skills in an oral and written translation interview to verify fluency.

  • Experience with personal computer and software applications
  • Experience and knowledge with Maryland tax laws and forms
  • Experience and knowledge with Federal tax laws and form.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. 
  • Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
