Introduction

Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job

The MPT Senior Producer will work with the Executive Producer and Managing Director of Content to produce lifestyles programs, series, and program segments of varying length as assigned.  The position advises and participates with the Executive Producer in the negotiation and preparation of contracts, budgets, timetables and workflow documents as related to each production.  The incumbent will research, write, shoot and edit show content and be able to direct the work of technical crews, shooters and editors to achieve the project's desired goals.  The position will maintain communication with internal and external partners to keep them informed of latest project developments through development, production and post production.

 

This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Conceive, write, produce and edit content.  Strong writing skills are essential for outlines, creative treatments and scripts.

Produce long-form linear content and short-form digital content.  Work both independently and with cross-departmental collaborators.

Develop new ideas, concepts, and designs for various projects.

Plan and communicate production timelines, shooting, editing and delivery schedules.

Prepare, update, and maintain project reports.

Develop, manage and reconcile and report on production budgets.

Create and implement project delivery schedules.

Address and resolve issues in a timely manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in film, media, mass communications, or related field.  

Experience: Six (6) years of experience in planning and producing content, including research, writing, and editing.

 

Note: 

1.    Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

 

Field and post production planning and execution experience

 

Experience with programs such as Adobe’s Premiere, Creative Cloud, Photoshop and Avid Media Composer software

 

Exceptional staff management and interpersonal communication skills

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The selected candidate must be willing to work flexible hours to include a short turnaround, overtime, holidays, and weekends.  The selected candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more due to the weight of the equipment.
