Introduction
Maryland Public Television, which is commonly
known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television station service
that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the
District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West
Virginia. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and produces
local and national programming content. In addition, it also services other
Maryland State agencies by providing training material, advertising services
and educational content to schools.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Manage Station Manager’s electronic calendar; book travel arrangements for the Station Manager; and manage associated travel expenses.
- Manage and support activities surrounding the Station Manger’s direct reports and their related employees to include administrative work, timesheets, leave requests, inventory, purchasing, intern hiring/ management and maintenance of office equipment.
- Provide support to the Station Manager Office’s direct reports in emergency or special situations.
- Support and manage Station Manager’s communication (includes written electronic communications, reports, contracts, meeting coordination, notes, video and computer presentations such as PowerPoint and Excel spreadsheets, and coordinate video presentations for meetings) needs and annual review process
- Modify existing contracts for division artists, independent contractors and freelancers per the Station Manager and direct supports.
- Conduct and maintain annual physical inventory of office equipment .
- Schedule internal and external meetings and appointments.
- Answer phones and take messages for the Station Manager.
- Provide additional support for the Station Manager’s office for events, as needed, including managing invitations lists and tracking RSVPs.
- Order and purchase materials and administrative support items.
- Interaction with all MPT senior staff and also their direct reports on a daily basis for administrative purposes.
- Assist and co-represent the Station Manager’s office to MPT staff and external partners.
- Contact senior staff of nearly all state agencies, as needed, to schedule meetings and follow-up.
- Contact producers, clients, sponsors, prospects, major donors and vendors, as needed, to help secure content and business opportunities.
- Draft correspondence / memos for the Station Manager and division managers.
- Assist with the tracking and invoicing approval, as well as serve as a liaison with the Accounting and Finance office.
- Coordinate and organize MPT’s strategic planning process to include scheduling meetings and creating / maintaining documents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or GED
For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding these qualifications.
- Senior management level support experience
- Experience with the State of Maryland Financial Management Information System (FMIS) or other financial processing system
- Experience with DocuSign or related software
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to compose business correspondence
- Ability to proofread and edit written documents
- Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as Google
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to interact effectively with internal and external parties in a courteous and efficient manner
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple and continuing assignments with general instructions

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
