Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television service that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and produces local and national programming content. In addition, it also serves other Maryland State agencies by providing training material, advertising services and educational content to schools.

Main Purpose of Job

MPT’s Education Department seeks a part-time contractual early childhood project coordinator to support grant-funded education programs conducted in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties in Maryland. The person filling this position will be an integral member of the Early Childhood Division supporting the implementation of programs and activities that combine PBS KIDS educational media and developmentally appropriate hands-on learning to support early childhood education programs. The coordinator will be responsible for the planning, logistics, implementation and administrative tasks associated with the projects in conjunction with other MPT Education staff and project partners. Activities include implementing existing family engagement curriculum and training project partners on how to use PBS KIDS learning resources. 
Note: This is a part-time contractual position, 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, offering a hybrid work schedule as well as on-site in early childhood education environments in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties. The position requires the coordinator to be on-site in one of the three counties at a minimum of once a week. Occasional weekend and evening work required. Travel to the Owings Mills location (for meetings and picking-up supplies) and throughout Maryland will be occasionally needed.

POSITION DUTIES


  • Coordinating the successful implementation of grant-funded early childhood education projects, ensuring all activities are implemented per grant deliverable requirements.      
  • Leading the implementation of existing family night curriculum and professional development training for project partners and early childhood educators.      
  • Ordering and managing materials for events.      
  • Organizing a master calendar of project activities including: education program site visits, family nights, program materials, training, reports and committee meetings with other MPT Education staff and project partners.      
  • Coordinating the collection of participant data to support program effectiveness, working closely with program evaluators throughout the grant period.      
  • Ensuring that all project activities are of the highest quality and align with the Code of Maryland Annotated Regulations (COMAR).     
  • Participating in special activities and other projects as needed and performs related duties as assigned. 
  • Provide training and support to project partners and early learning staff and will guide them in using media and technology in a developmentally appropriate way in programs and classrooms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university   
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience in community and family engagement, conducting training and presentations, and assisting parents and educators in accessing online and app-based learning media.
For education obtained outside the United States, you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or coursework towards the completion of a degree program   
  • Project Management Knowledge    
  • Coordinating the successful implementation of grant -funded early childhood education projects, ensuing all activities are implemented per grant deliverable requirements   
  • Leading the implementation of existing family night curriculum and professional development training for project partners and early childhood educators      
  • Ordering and managing materials for events

  • Must be proficient in using mobile technology (including iPads)    
  • Knowledge of Maryland’s training requirements for child care professionals and early childhood learning standards 
  • Familiarity with NAEYC standards      
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, general use of a computer, and other office equipment      
  • Ability to be proactive, self-motivated, well organized, reliable, detail oriented and meet deadlines      
  • Ability to function effectively in an environment of change and balancing competing priorities      
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently to complete assigned tasks and have effective and clear verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Familiarity with managing grant activities and budgets 
  • Embrace diversity, possess a professional attitude

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift, carry, and place on shelf instructional materials, kits, and other containers up to forty pounds.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work less than 30 hours per week may be eligible for health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a part-time contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying the full premiums for your elected health benefit coverages (medical, prescription coverage, dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance) for yourself and any eligible dependents you elect to enroll.
