Introduction

Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job

The Associate Producer will support the Content Department with the development of program concepts and ideas. The incumbent will function as an inter-departmental resource for Producers. The position is responsible for supporting the department with a range of programming. The incumbent will report directly to the Managing Director of Content.
This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Collaborate with program producers to meet and maintain the editorial mission, program balance, and continuity.

Research, write and edit creative treatments and program segments. 

Identify, create, and deliver content for social media to promote the show and engage viewers. 

Shoot still photos on location for promotional purposes.

Edit projects for rough and fine cuts in AVID non-linear systems.

Use professional specifications and protocols to deliver segments, programs, and elements on deadline. 

Periodically screen call-ins and perform various control room functions for Direct Connection. 

Create and deliver digital stories for social platforms. 

Shoot and edit b-roll for programs.

Book production facilities, equipment, and schedule personnel. 

Support the Content Department by performing control room duties, preparing and updating project reports, and serving as the Associate Producer on various projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in film, media, mass communications, or related field.  

 

Experience: Two (2) years of experience which involved the various aspects of television production such as research, writing, segment production, editing and knowledge of cameras and equipment. 

Note:

  1. Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Experience delivering high-quality broadcast programs on budget and on-deadline, and managing the day-to-day operations of a series.
  • Experience with Adobe’s Premiere, Creative Cloud, and Avid Media Composer software.
  • Experience with broadcast-feature producing, writing and editing skills.
  • A strong background in journalism.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The selected candidate must be willing to work flexible hours to include a short turnaround, overtime, holidays, and weekends.  The selected candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more due to the weight of the equipment. 

As the recruitment progresses, at a particular stage, applicants may be required to provide a copy of a demo reel or link for a demo reel.
