Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

This opening is for a contractual Assistant Producer for Maryland Public Television’s popular long-running series, Natural History. This position will assist with research, organizing footage, release forms, maintaining video archives, contributing to social media platforms, and other production areas as needed. The Assistant Producer may also have opportunities to assist producers on location. Hours of work per week is approximately 24 hours per week.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Organizing footage and release forms          
  • Image and archival research         
  • Assist in coordinating shoots        
  • Assist with post-production       
  • Assist producers on location       
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, media or similar relevant field 
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year experience in media production. 
Note: 
Candidates may substitute coursework in journalism, media, or similar field from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s):       
  • The successful candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills.        
  • Knowledge of non-linear editing systems, including AVID and Premiere Pro is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in 
the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work under 30 hours a week (or less than an average of 130 hours per month) may be eligible for health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. 
 As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying the full premiums for your medical and prescription, and dental coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. You can also elect to enroll in, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. 
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
