Introduction

The Maryland Commission of African American History and Culture (MCAAHC), is seeking an experienced and energetic individual to fill the position of Administrator I (Marketing Coordinator) at their museum.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to support marketing, social media, communications, and public relations efforts for the Banneker-Douglass Museum and the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture with the mission of preserving Maryland’s African American heritage. At the state of Maryland’s museum for African American history and culture, we carry out our mission through educational programs, historical and fine art exhibitions, collections and archives, social justice initiatives, docent-guided tours, and more.

POSITION DUTIES

Marketing & Social Media

● Collaborate with other departments to gather information and create marketing materials/digital content to promote the museum’s programs, events, and projects.
● Prepare and distribute marketing and promotional materials.
● Collaborate with the creative/design consultant to develop graphics and video content for social media.
● Provide support for various types of media projects, including photoshoots, video shoots, and photo repository.
● Community partnership and relationship-building 
● Data analysis for data-driven decision making.
● Assist in the development of marketing strategies.  
● Contribute to social media engagement via messages, comments, and reviews.  
● Research historical information, photos, and video footage for possible content.

Communications & Public Relations 

● Communications & public relations strategy development.
● Provide creative and strategic support in building communications plans.
● Development of communications materials including e-newsletters, press releases, media advisories, development communications, and printed materials.
● Development of website copy and maintaining up-to-date website information.
● Maintenance of the press/media database.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field of study from an accredited college or university.

ExperienceThree years of relevant experience, preferably in the museum, nonprofit, history, or art sectors.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Three to five years of experience in graphic design.
Marketing/social media experience. 
Experience building partnerships/relationships within the community. 
Experience in historical/educational promotional marketing.
