Main Purpose of Job

This main purpose of this position will be to provide GED oversight and instruction. This position will provide technical information system and data support. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the testing and/or technical services for the Juvenile Service Education Program (JSEP) GED testing site(s), in accordance with the Pearson VUE and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)/JSEP requirements. Additionally, this position will be: planning/implementing effective GED policies and strategies for teachers and office staff; teaching key GED technology skills to prospective GED students; evaluating, tracking, and analyzing GED pre-tests, GED scores; and, offering post GED instruction and/or support with the student information system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position will possess at least one (1) year of professional experience in the following: 

Teaching in an alternative education setting rather than the traditional high school or college setting.

Teaching institutionalized or disadvantaged populations.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for application may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2595.
