Introduction

The Maryland Department of the Environment is accepting up to 11 applications for Student Technical Assistants for a 3-month period starting June 2023.

POSITION LOCATIONS IN BALTIMORE CITY AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES

Main Purpose of Job

The Student Technical Assistant classification is used to hire college students pursuing degrees in fields such as environmental science, geology, engineering, mathematics, chemistry and other qualifying degrees.  The Student Technical Assistant will assist staff in either the Water and Science Administration or Land and Materials Administration.  The Student must be able to handle confidential information and work according to agency polices, procedures and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Students must have completed freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year in an undergraduate environmental science program or other related majors such as biology, earth science, geology, engineering, mathematics and other qualifying degrees.  Students that have recently completed their senior year in an undergraduate education must be enrolled in a Master's study program to be eligible.  Enrollment documentation in the Master's study program must be submitted when appointed to the position.

KNOWLEDGE OF MICROSOFT PRODUCTS, I.E., WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, ETC. MAY BE A REQUIREMENT FOR SOME POSITIONS.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the Student Technical Assistant have a degree in the following:

  • Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry, Political Science, Pre-Law, or other qualifying Environmental Science degree.
