Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES
- Reviews initial, reconsideration and continuing level disability claims at all stages of development to assure accurate and prompt decisions under SSA standards.
- Utilizes the Disability Case Processing System to document both formal and informal reviews.
- Prepares appraisal summaries on formal review, describing in detail-identified deficiencies.
- Handles special assignments for the division, agency or SSA components in response to agency needs. Represent DDS by participating in regional and national SSA projects.
- Serves on DDS or SSA committees or taskforces formed to study existing policies or implement new policies. Analyzes returned claims from SSA quality reviews in which substantive medical, vocational or procedural deficiencies have been cited, collaborating with Chief Medical/Psychiatric Consultants, Quality Coordinator and/or the Division Director to determine if a rebuttal is appropriate.
- Developing and conducting training to specifically address individual, section or agency needs, as determined by performance analysis, change in DDS/SSA procedures or policies, or their clarifications.
- Assist DDS Training Specialist in the preparation and presentation of the SSA Disability Examiner Basic Training Program for newly hired examiners.
- Assists in agency-wide training for DDS examiners, medical and psychiatric consultants as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
NOTE: You may apply if you will meet the minimum qualifications by November 1, 2023. However, you will not be placed in the position until you meet the required experience as specified above.
