As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

This important role advises and informs client and client applicants of all services and benefits available to them through programs authorized under the Rehabilitation act of 1973, as amended, including providing individual advocacy services and support in pursuing legal and administrative remedies to ensure protection of individual rights and to facilitate access to eligible individuals to services funded under the Act.

 Position Duties Include:

  • Statewide responsibility for facilitating resolution of consumer concerns and complaints related to service of the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) or Centers for Independent Living (CILs) 
  • Using a case management system, compiling documentation, individual case records, and statistics for individuals receiving services 
  • Conducting outreach presentations and developing materials for consumers and provider groups to share information about the services available through the Client Assistance Program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Experience: Two years of experience working with client/consumer concerns and complaints within rehabilitation programs

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as defined above directly related to the position at the rate of one year of experience for each year of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

3. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104, Annotated Code of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must consent to State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
