Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

This is a contractual position responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating employment services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This position works in partnership with the local business community to develop job opportunities and coordinates job supports, as needed, for individuals on the Autism Spectrum to promote successful worksite integration, and assists consumers in obtaining and maintaining employment. Provide leadership and technical assistance in the planning and implementation of programs/ services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders to assist them in achieving their vocational goals. This position provides individual and group support services and counseling for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders to promote their employment, economic self-sufficiency and independence.

Position Duties Include:

  • Working in conjunction with the Supervisor of Autism Services to provide direct support and services to individuals with ASD
  • Coordinating and facilitating job development, job placement and employer engagement, awareness and education
  • Providing support such as job coaching, development of natural supports, worksite accommodations and technology needs to individuals on the autism spectrum at the worksite, internship sites, and other out-placement sites
  • Providing direct support and services to individuals with ASD including the development of self-advocacy and social skills, individual and group counseling, individual and group instruction, peer support groups, disability awareness, development of soft skills, and job readiness skills
  • Serving consumers with ASD referred by DORS field staff, programs at the Workforce and Technology Center (WTC), WTC Training & Partnership Programs, WTC Pathways Program & VCAMP (two and four-year colleges)
  • Working with college career center staff and Autism services department staff to encourage students to apply for internships, volunteer experiences and other activities to enhance employment
  • Meeting service outcome goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Possession of a bachelor's degree is required

Experience:  Two years of experience working with transitioning youth and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must consent to State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
