Introduction

The Office of the Attorney General (“OAG”) is seeking applicants for a Director of Information Technology (“Director”) in the Information Technology Unit.

Main Purpose of Job

The Director oversees all information technology functions of the OAG.

POSITION DUTIES

The Director provides computer and telecommunications support to the employees of the OAG in the central administrative offices in Baltimore as well as offices in Annapolis, Salisbury, Largo and Hagerstown. Duties include, but are not limited to, diagnosing and resolving hardware and software problems; procuring and working with outside vendors, soliciting purchases, diagnosing and assisting users with network problems; supervising network switches, firewalls, databases, servers; developing and conducting training and training manuals and instructions; overseeing functionality of all OAG IT equipment; and installing, configuring, testing and evaluating new software. Incumbent will participate in on-call schedule for after-hours and weekend support.  This position performs both hands-on and administrative duties as required.

The incumbent manages the day-to-day operations of the Information Technology Unit and provides leadership and direction to staff to ensure the successful planning, direction, and coordination of major information technology projects. The Director directs proactive customer service and support, ensuring that critical issues and trends are identified, tracked, and resolved. The Director is also responsible for regular reviews of all information systems to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of IT operations, ensuring the review of all hardware and software, the adequacy of system documentation, the design and architecture of the systems and databases. The incumbent advises OAG leadership on IT issues and solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in computer information technology, management information systems or other information technology related field, to include course work in local or wide area computer networks, from an accredited college or university and will have a minimum of four years of broad IT experience with planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area networks.

Experience with all Microsoft products including both local and cloud services and products including Teams, SharePoint, SQL, Azure, Office 365 is required.  Experience with firewall management is required.  Experience with software management or development is required.

Applicants may substitute four years of related experience for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Managing and providing oversight of one or more technology systems, programs, or initiatives for an agency;
• Leading or coordinating the long-term planning and implementation for technology systems or initiatives, including budgeting, acquisition planning, requirements planning, project management, and other related functions;
• Experience working with laws, executive orders, agency policies, and other relevant rules and regulations to manage and maintain high-quality information technology products and systems; and, 
• Leading and managing a technology initiative or program to include effectively communicating and working with stakeholders to establish and maintain effective working relationships and deliver excellent customer focused solutions.
