Introduction
DPSCS chaplains work in our
correctional facilities ; Therefore, this position requires the successful
completion of our correctional academy. The correctional academy is a 7 week
program, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm.

POSITION DUTIES
A Chaplain is
the full performance level or work providing chaplaincy and religious
programming service to all faiths of a population in a correctional facility or
at a State health facility. Employees in this classification do not supervise
other Chaplains. Employees receive general supervision from a designated
management official. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends, and
holidays.
Works cooperatively with the Volunteer Activities Coordinator in
recruiting, screening, orienting, supervising, and terminating religious
program volunteers, including volunteer clergymen and lay volunteers.
Develops, monitors, and delivers worship services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference
will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred
qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your
application regarding your qualifications.
1. Candidate should be willing to service various communities of faith.
2.Possession
of a Bachelor's degree in the disciplines of
Theology, Religious Studies, or Sacred Studies from an accredited institute,
seminary, or equivalent.
3. Completion of a standard
correctional training academy program.
4. Willingness to work flexible
hours to meet the needs of the facility
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must meet all selection standards as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. Candidates who receive a probationary appointment must satisfactorily complete a prescribed training program prior to appointment. Selection standards of the Correctional Training Commission may be obtained from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Suite 309, 6776 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore Maryland 21215.
SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
