Main Purpose of Job

The Office of the Attorney General at the Department of Labor is seeking applicants for a Paralegal II.

POSITION DUTIES

This position provides administrative support to the Assistant Attorneys General assigned to the various boards and commissions within the Department; conducts legal research; drafts correspondence, pleadings, and affidavits; and assembles supporting documents and exhibits; and tracks complaints.  This position also reviews complaints and prepares charge letters based on case files sent to the Office of the Attorney General by the Real Estate Commission and enters, updates, and tracks information concerning case files into the Legal Files Case Tracking System.  In addition, this position manages the Law Library and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Experience: Five years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, or in administrative or professional work.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and strong word processing skills.
2. Experience performing legal research. 
3. Knowledge of Maryland and Federal court rules and procedures preferred.
