Main Purpose of Job
Job duties for Medicaid-related issues include:
- Oversee clinical activities and develops and implements clinical guidelines, procedures, standards and controls for the Maryland Medicaid program;
- Evaluates the implementation of programs and coordinates with public and private agencies providing similar services;
- Formulates policy and coordinates the activities for various services within the program;
- Leads direct engagement with Medicaid’s Managed Care Medical Directors;
- Conducts literature reviews, evaluates evidence-based practices, and looks at clinically-sound coverage policies from other payers;
- Represents the State at the Office of Administrative Hearings and through other audit review processes;
- Advises the Deputy Secretary for Health Care Financing on approaches to monitor and improve the quality of care, preventive services, and health promotion activities at the Medicaid-participating managed care organizations.
Job duties for Non-Medicaid work include:
- Advise the Secretary of the Department on the optimal distribution of Department- employed physicians across the department, and the roles and functions of each;
- Assist the Secretary in medical matters involving the Board of Physicians, Board of Nursing, and Board of Pharmacy;
- Lead the Department’s efforts to develop an integrated approach to treating all of the co-morbid conditions affecting individuals to whom the Department provides or finances health care services.
