The Maryland Freestate ChalleNGe Academy (FCA) is one of the
original 10 state Challenge Programs. FCA is a tuition-free program which
offers at-risk adolescents 16 to 18 years old an opportunity to change their
future for the better by providing the skills, education and self-discipline
needed to become responsible, productive citizens. The initial program consists
of a 22-week residential phase. During this phase the cadets learn
self-discipline, leadership, and responsibility. Participants live and work in
a controlled military environment, encouraging teamwork and personal growth. A
12-month post-residential phase focuses on helping enroll graduates in
continued education, technical school programs or entry-level employment. During
the post-residential phase, students are assisted by at least one trained
mentor from the community for further development. Help young Marylanders who
want and deserve the opportunity to acquire their GED and a path to a better

This position is located on a military
installation, and you will need to be able to enter the facility by passing a
DOD background check for entering installations.

POSITION DUTIES
Maintain
and keep all common areas of assigned buildings clean and sanitary, conducive
to good hygiene at all times.
Duties for this position
includes but are not limited to:

Sweep, mop, and vacuum, all floors as
assigned.
·
Buff, strip and wax all stairways.
Machine shampoo all carpets as required.
·
Clean restroom, urinals, sinks, mirrors,
partitions, floors, soap and towel dispensers.
·
Keep building stocked with janitorial
supplies.
·
Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from
buildings as required.
·
Dust chairs, bookcases, file cabinets,
venetian blinds, light fixtures, walls, ceilings and pipes.
·
Wash windows throughout building, inside
and outside.
·
Clean and wax furniture as required.
All the aforementioned
duties will include instructing and teaching Academy Cadets the proper way to
complete each task. Selected Candidate
will have a rotating crew of Cadets that assist while learning. Cadets ARE NOT to complete task in lieu of
the selected Candidate and should always be under Selected Candidates direction,
instruction, and supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: None.
Experience: None.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience providing custodial, janitorial or
housekeeping services in a large facility, or commercial office space, such as
a hospital, school, hotel or an office complex.
Experience operating the machinery to buff
floors.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

· Personal Leave - new
State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start
