The selected candidate will split their time between the agency's Annapolis and Woodlawn offices. The candidate will spend two days at the Woodlawn office ad three days at the Annapolis office per week. 

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to assist in the research of criminal histories in Maryland records. The position evaluates requests, performs and reports the research, and/or routes the requests to assisting staff. Requesting programs include the FBI National Instant Criminal History Background Checks (NICS), the Maryland Criminal Justice Information System Central Repository (CJIS-CR), and the Maryland State Police in compliance with the requirements of the Federal Brady law. Additionally, requests come from law enforcement agencies, legal agencies, and private individuals. The position also assists with providing access to or improving the description, storage, or accessibility of records, especially those related to criminal research This position monitors general condition of archival holdings, environmental conditions, physical plant status and conditions; appropriately maintains area, takes appropriate corrective action and/or reports issues to higher level Archivists for corrective action. This is professional archival work providing access to records, a primary component of the mission of the State Archives.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assists higher level Archivists in researching and responding to criminal history requests

  • Assists with providing access to or improving the description, storage, or accessibility of records

  • Performs other duties within the Archival classification as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience in professional archival work with public records.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Archivist classifications or Archivist specialty codes in the Library and Archives field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1) Experience assisting higher level Archivists in researching and responding to criminal history in accordance with Archives policies, procedures, and established deadlines

2) Experience assisting with providing access to or improving the description, storage, or accessibility of records in accordance with Archives policies, procedures, and established deadlines.
