MDH/Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, Baltimore, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will lead, support, monitor, and coordinate a wide range of complex strategic Statewide public health programming, policy and planning activities, including health equity and inclusion-related projects, in order to prevent and control chronic disease in Maryland. This position will be expected to be skilled and experienced with addressing disparities, as they will build and coordinate inclusion activities within new and existing programs in the Maryland Department of Health (MDH)'s Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA)'s Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC).

This position will manage multiple grants and programs for the CCDPC, while being responsible for all grant management duties and oversight. This position will also provide guidance on the coordination, evaluation, analysis, and development of policies and programs which address the public health challenges regarding chronic diseases. Additionally, this position will supervise staff members in the CCDPC's Program and Grants Team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Counseling, or a related field.

Experience: Six years of professional experience in health services, three years of which must have been in Health Services professional clinical or administrative services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions, and three years of which must have been at the managerial or supervisory level.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree or a Doctorate degree in a health or human services field from an accredited college or university for up to two years of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field, plus an additional year of professional experience in health services, for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health-related field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience and education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must have at least one (1) year of the following experience:
  • supervisory experience.
  • managing public health programs.
  • writing grants.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience evaluating public health programs, as well as experience participating in strategic planning efforts for future chronic disease initiatives. The desired candidate should be able to provide evidence of their successful grant application(s).
