Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Finance and Administrative Services. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this job is to provide administrative support to the Director and Deputy Director of FAS, and to receive direction as well from other FAS managers and supervisors when providing cross-functional support. This position may maintain the Director’s and Deputy Director’s calendars, answer their telephones and other duties as necessary to support administrative functions within the unit. The incumbent also functions as the Human Resources Contact/Coordinator for FAS. The incumbent also provides essential fiscal and clerical support for banking, federal grants, accounts receivable, and general accounting.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Finance and Administrative Services (FAS), is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Officer I. The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clerical support to the Director and Deputy Director of FAS, and to FAS General Accounting. This position acts as the FAS HR Contact. As an Administrative Officer in a Finance Unit, you will be working closely with accountants and other fiscal personnel. Duties include accounts payable responsibilities, CPC duties, office supplies ordering, bank deposit preparation, records retention coordination, backup assistance to the federal grants section with routine federal timecard input, and other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in accounting.
  • Experience reviewing accounts payable.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
