Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to supervise the health benefits and sick leave usage section and to function as the Disability Retirement Coordinator within the Medical Services Unit of the Human Resources Division (HRD). The position is also responsible for reviewing, processing and recommending approval or disapproval on all medical leave benefit requests submitted by Maryland State Police sworn and civilian employees. This position also serves as the ADA Coordinator for the Department.

Medical Leave Benefits Coordinator to include Administrative/Accident Leave; Leave Bank and Donation Programs; Leave of Absence Without Pay; Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Disability Retirement Coordinator
ADA Coordinator
Other related duties as assigned by Supervisory or Command personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience with Administrative/Accident Leave; Leave Bank and Donation Program; Leave of Absence without Pay; Disability Retirement; FMLA and ADA.
2. Prior supervisory experience
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, Candidates for position in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process for this recruitment will involve a rating of the training and experience provided on the application. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, and QUALIFIED categories. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill this vacancy. The list will be valid for one year.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
