Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resource Police. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

Gather data for, obtain approval, and submit reports the agency is required to submit by law and policy, as appropriate; (Note: there are 60 reports/tasks total we must do each year - some required by law, others required by policy). Create publications required by policy, procedure, law and as directed, in the form of documents, presentations, slide shows, etc.; and present the same using the latest technology both in-person and virtually. 

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police, are currently accepting applications for Administrator III, Research and Reporting Coordinator.  The duties of this position include gathering and analyzing data from agency databases, systems and personnel; creating, reporting, and documenting analysis and findings using advanced computer skills, technical tools, critical thinking and reasoning skills to convey information professionally, accurately, grammatically correct and by the deadline on new and existing official agency publications in the manner required by law, regulation, policy, and procedure using Microsoft and Google for Government products (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Forms, webapps); the ability to use mid-level functions and formulas within Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel to manipulate and analyze data effectively; demonstrating strong presentation skills to effectively communicate data insights, findings and publications to groups in both in-person and virtual settings; identifying and proposing solutions to reporting and data-related challenges as they arise; applying analytical skills using qualitative and quantitative data to make inferences, projections, and identify trends; reviewing agency policy and procedure for quality control and structure; collaborating with internal teams and stakeholders to gather feedback, address inquiries from stakeholders, and make necessary improvements to reporting processes and data accuracy; ability to work effectively, proactively, independently and collaboratively across NRP, DNR and other state agencies, and other duties as assigned by the NRP Adjutant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced data analysis and professional publication creation within a law enforcement agency;
  • The ability to use complex and advanced functions and formulas in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel to manipulate and analyze data effectively;
  • The ability to effectively code using Python, HTML and JavaScript on a basic level.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
