LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is with the Maryland Department of General Services (DGS), Office of Business Enterprise Administration, based at 301 W. Preston Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. The position will be responsible for handling work State-wide (as needed).

Main Purpose of Job

This position directly supports the Governor’s and Lt. Governor’s audio/video requirements for press conferences, announcements, groundbreakings, Board of Public Works Meetings, events, and other meetings as required.  In addition, this position will assist the Business Enterprise Administration Division with supporting the agency's IT needs, including managing IT equipment setup and conducting physical inventories of equipment.
This is an emergency essential position subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this position must be willing and available for duty at all hours, day or night, and are required to work remotely for duty at all hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency.

 Duties for this position include but are not limited to:
 - Operate and maintain audio systems, remote systems, as well as those throughout the various facilities. The Executive Branch and General Assembly use audio systems daily. In some cases, repairs are performed during live broadcasts. The technician performing repairs must possess a thorough understanding of computer electronics, digital transmission and software.
 - Install and maintain audio systems throughout the facility as well as remote/mobile audio systems at on-site locations. The technician performing repairs must be familiar with media broadcasting, public address systems, and audio distribution.
 - Assist DGS IT personnel with setting up and troubleshooting issues with cell phones and computers.
 - Take reservations for, track use of, and log/confirm returns of loaner IT equipment; ensure the equipment is in good working condition for the next reservation.
 - Assist DGS IT personnel with the following as it relates to the inventory of IT equipment: receiving orders, unboxing and adding equipment to inventory database, conduct physical inventories of IT equipment statewide, and preparing decommissioned equipment for the disposal process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess the following selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding all qualifications.
• 1 Year experience in support Audio-Video system installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair.
• 1 Year experience in providing general information technology support.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.
• One (1) year of experience setting up a variety of microphones, amplifiers and loudspeaker equipment used for media broadcasting, public address systems and audio distribution.
• Working knowledge of audio, video, control, and communications systems.
• Knowledge and familiarity with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting computers and cell phones.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

The examination for this position will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring authority to select employees for interviews.  Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.You MUST possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job – verification will be completed upon hire.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of being placed on the eligibility list, you may participate in the selection process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of being placed on an eligibility list.
Please note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
