The Maryland Department of Agriculture is a department under Maryland's Executive Branch.  Formed in 1972 by the Maryland General Assembly to address the agriculture needs for the State of Maryland, the Department oversees and serves as a regulatory body for animal health , consumer services to include marketing and lab services, plant and pest management and resource conservation.  As the number one industry in Maryland, the diversity of agriculture programs in the State continue to expand and grow.   


Our Resource Conservation Program Planning and Evaluation program develops new programs and services and oversees all progress toward environmental goals. This position works closely with District Operations and Soil Conservation Districts to enhance data tracking and reporting efforts.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Maryland Department of Agriculture Headquarters - Annapolis, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will lead the data entry and review of information associated with Resource Conservation's Field Assessment Planning team; support data collection and analysis to ensure consistent reporting of agricultural conservation practices and strict adherence to program procedures; support efforts with District Operations and Soil Conservation District Offices to enhance data tracking and reporting quality; and support agency efforts to integrate multi-database and spatial data for optimized data tracking and reporting.

POSITION DUTIES

Lead the data entry and support the review of conservation program data as it relates to Maryland's achievement of water quality and climate change goals.

Analyze program data, including databases, spatial, and in-field assessments, to offer recommendations for program improvements and best methods to align and optimize systems.

Provide support to Maryland's 24 Soil Conservation Districts in reporting efforts related to the implementation of water quality and climate goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work. 

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience utilizing a relational database (for example, Oracle), including entering and analyzing data, setting up report queries and database management.

Experience using spreadsheet tools to evaluate data (for example pivot tables, data summaries.) 

Experience cross checking forms, data entries and reports for accuracy.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position is limited to current permanent or contractual employees of the Maryland Department of Agriculture only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
