Main Purpose of Job

To support the operation of the Somers Cove Marina by supervising maintenance personnel and coordinating maintenance projects required to provide a safe recreational experience for marina area visitors and staff. This job entails working weekends, holidays and evenings as necessary or as required by the Executive Director or Marina Manager.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Somers Cove Marina, Somerset County, Crisfield, is currently accepting applications for Maintenance Supervisor I. This position supports the operation of the Somers Cove Marina by supervising maintenance personnel and coordinating maintenance projects required to provide a safe recreational experience for marina area visitors and staff. This job entails working weekends, holidays and evenings as necessary or as required by the Executive Director or Marina Manager. A Maintenance Supervisor I is the managerial level of stationary engineering and building maintenance work. Employees in this classification supervise lower-level building maintenance supervisors and skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance employees. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a higher-level Maintenance Supervisor or an administrator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Eighth grade.

Experience: Six years experience in building maintenance or building construction trades including five years of responsibility assigning, reviewing and approving the work of others and disciplining, evaluating the performance of, and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.


Note

  1. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance specialty codes in the utility systems repair field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanics, pool operator and safety requirements in a Marine industry.  
  • Two years experience in a Marine environment and the ability to operate small vessels.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Certified Pool Operator Certification
  • Maryland or US Coast Guard Boater’s Safety License
  • Fork Lift Operator Certification
  • Knowledge of the practical application of electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics as used in building maintenance work
  • Knowledge of the principles of supervision in the building maintenance trades
  • Skill in the care and storage of equipment and supplies
  • Skill in scheduling, coordinating, and supervising building maintenance work
  • Skill in interpreting and following blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications
  • Ability to prepare estimates of time and material required for a job
  • Ability to prepare specifications for tools, equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive and concise reports on building maintenance
  • Ability to keep inventory records
  • Ability to train employees in building maintenance work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, administrators and the general public

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position entails working weekends, holidays and evenings as necessary or as required by the Executive Director or Marina Manager.
