Located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland, JPPM is home to over 65 archaeological sites, more than 30 historic buildings and structures, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. Main Purpose of Job

The Grounds and Event Safety Technician functions as a lead, assisting the supervisor in assigning personnel daily tasks to ensure the facility and grounds management of Jefferson Patterson Park (JPPM) is accomplished correctly, safely, and on time. This position assumes the responsibilities of the Maintenance Chief IV or Maintenance Supervisor in their absence(s). As part of their regular duties, they perform maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, tools, equipment, vehicles, and tractors. They oversee daily equipment readings, perform scheduled preventative maintenance, provide grounds and custodial maintenance services for office areas, public buildings, rest rooms, and picnic areas at JPPM. They are responsible for monitoring facilities during daily operations, rentals, and events to ensure that JPPM policies are being followed. This position provides facility-wide support in all areas mentioned above in order to allow the JPPM staff an adequate and safe working environment in which to meet the mission of MDP and JPPM.

POSITION DUTIES

Position Duties

 Functions as lead for Grounds and Facility Maintenance, assisting the maintenance supervisor in operations of the grounds and facilities. Oversees, organizes, schedules, and coordinates the technical maintenance work and installation services rendered by employees and contractors. 

 Assesses and develops preventative maintenance needs, inspects buildings and equipment to ensure maintenance standards and specifications are adhered to with proper documentation in place. 

 Prepares venue for events and monitors grounds and facilities during events. Works directly with members of the public and renters to provide information and assistance, ensuring event completion according to schedule and terms of their contract. Ensures building cleanliness and set up and closes and secures the building at the end of the rental periods or special events. 

 Inspects shop and work areas for adherence to safety, sanitary, and security regulations and resolves and briefs the supervisor of any deficiencies. Enforces safe work practices and fills out appropriate paperwork, to include logs, incident reports, etc. Monitors security related computers and responds to alarms while on duty and takes appropriate actions. Patrols the park and ensures gates and buildings are closed and secured at the end of the evening. In the event of an emergency, contacts emergency personnel and is able to perform first aid and CPR if necessary.

 Oversees, coordinates, and ensures groomed and maintained appearance of JPPM grounds (560 acres) by mowing, trimming, and clearing. Removes downed or hanging limbs and trees as necessary for the safety of all in the park. Ensure trails are clear of debris and safe for public use. 

 Oversees, schedules, and coordinates building cleaning for each building located at the park. Delegates or performs related maintenance and custodial duties during events. Cleans buildings to promote a healthy and pleasing environment for workers and visitors. Disposes of all refuse from all buildings and picnic areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including three years of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: One year of experience in supporting private or public event planning, management, or execution that includes customer or stakeholder engagement.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
