Introduction

Maryland's Department of Labor, Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning (DWDAL), is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of "Office Services Clerk" within the Office of Workforce Development (OWD).  Frequent travel may be required, and a State vehicle may not always be available. Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle will apply according to the State travel policy.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide assistance to staff in the Waldorf American Job Center. Perform clerical duties. Primary duties include: answer telephone calls in order to take messages, transfer calls to appropriate parties and provide routine information, greet and direct office visitors to appropriate individuals.

POSITION DUTIES

   Answer telephone calls in order to take messages, transfer calls to appropriate parties and greet office visitors.  Provide routine information regarding the AJC services to both callers and office visitors;

●   Assist visitors sign in for services at the AJC, utilizing both hard copy paper sign- in and computer;

●   Prepare routine reports using data received automatically from electronic mail;

●   Other clerical duties as assigned to support the programs in the American Job Center;

●   Update and maintain logs, schedules, rosters, records and lists;

●   Enter, retrieve and update information using computer software applications;

●   Open, stamp, sort and distribute incoming mail and prepare material for outgoing mail;

●   File reports, records, forms and other material according to office procedures;

●   Photocopy or scan various materials;

●   Receive and distribute office supplies and materials;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Six (6) months clerical experience

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the Maryland Workforce Exchange
Experience working in an professional office environment
Experience working with Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite Software packages
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
