Introduction
This
contractual position is funded by the State Compensatory Education
funds. The position will be a minimum of 20 hours per week, but may
require more hours as needed.
Maryland School for the

Main Purpose of Job
This position will provide compensatory education services to students who have been identified through a specific determination process. These services include remediation and supplemental instruction towards identified educational IEP goals—monitor and document progress as evidenced by assessments and progress reviews. These services could be provided in one on one settings, or small group settings, during the school day, before and after school, as well as on the weekends. Services would be provided in person. Sessions range from 20-60 minutes, and can be once or several times a week for a specified number of weeks.
POSITION DUTIES
To
perform this job successfully, an individual must be knowledgeable and perform
each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Plan
instruction, tutoring, practice and assessment in alignment with identified
goals.
- Provide
direct supplemental/remedial instruction services to identified students.
- Work
with individual and small groups of students both within and outside of
classrooms to assist students in achieving closing targeted academic goals.
- Implement
best teaching practices to close the targeted academic gaps.
- Follow intervention plan
(compensatory ed plan), monitor target students' performance, and collect data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Candidates must be eligible
to apply for or be willing to obtain certification by the Maryland State
Department of Education within a prescribed amount of time. Fluency in
American Sign Language and written English required. Knowledge of the
Deaf culture, Deaf Education, students with additional disabilities and ability
to teach students on different levels and with varying educational and language
acquisition backgrounds is required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Education or Special Education of Deaf students,
Maryland State Department of Education Certification
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
