Introduction

Maryland Public Television is a leader in the production of broadcast programming for public television. MPT's local/regional television credits include public affairs, original performance, entertainment, and documentary programs for the citizens of Maryland. Beyond broadcast, MPT creates instructional videos, develops training, and builds internet sites that serve tens of thousands of students, teachers, and child-care providers annually. MPT's outreach activities, especially relating to arts, culture, and history, take place in all areas of the state to further fulfill MPT's mission to engage, enlighten, and entertain.

Main Purpose of Job

Oversee and manage MPT Content Division pipeline and staff activities. Supervise the development of new projects from idea to distribution across TV, online and social media platforms. Determine time lines, production plans, budgets, marketing plans, promotion, and outreach activities and ultimately budget for all activities. Collaborate with outside organizations and solicit new ideas. Engage community leaders and partners to help them tell their communities stories. Maintain ultimate responsibility for quality control and content.  

This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. 

Experience:  Seven (7) years of experience in public television, studio, live event, content development and/or media management. 

Note: 

Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience creating, producing diverse and award-winning multiplatform (short-form, long-form social media) content for national and local distribution.

Experience and knowledge of the latest industry trends and practices related to media convergence impacting traditional broadcasters.

P&L experience in developing and managing content production budgets.

Experience with growing diverse audiences and raising funds for original productions.

Experience producing and managing a team of internal staff producers and external independent producers.

Strong organizational, communications (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills required.

Ability to meet stringent deadlines and work under pressure, in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
