Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The MPT Producer/ Editor serves the financial and production goals of the Content Division by creating broadcast promotional materials in support of MPT's marketing plan for our products, programs and services. The Producer/Editor is an integral member of the Creative Services team in producing national and local broadcast promotion, station image messaging, underwriting messages, long-form promotional reels and interstitial “shorts” content. Position serves to represent MPT's digital production and design capabilities and functions as part of a production team to help generate revenues and viewership while adhering to public television’s standards and guidelines.

This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Conceptualize, write, produce and edit broadcast and digital media promotion for MPT programs, day parts, stunts, station image campaigns, and interstitials.

Script writing, footage resourcing, directing location and studio shoots, motion graphics with Adobe After Effects, editing with AVID and Adobe Premiere and weekly promo post-production sessions.

Successful interfacing with the Creative Services team and program producers required.

Research, assemble, convert and download files from multiple national syndication sources.

Non-linear editing of weekly promo post sessions.

Create all promotional graphics for weekly edit sessions.

Enter and update promo information in the traffic system.

Download and tag syndicated promos.

Convert promos files and deliver them to MPT's Master Control and the Creative Services archives library.

Track all billable time, submit bi-weekly time sheets, and in-kind reports of all activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in film, media, mass communications, or related field.  

Experience: Four (4) years of experience which involved the various aspects of television production such as research, writing, segment production, editing and knowledge of cameras and equipment.

1. Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience with Adobe’s Creative Cloud: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Avid Media Composer software

Experience with broadcast-feature producing, writing and editing skills

Strong production-planning and execution skills

A strong background in journalism

Experience with Microsoft Office suite, G-Suite (Google)

Experience with Non-Linear editing

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The selected candidate must be willing to work flexible hours to include a short turnaround, overtime, holidays, and weekends.  The selected candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more due to the weight of the equipment.
