Main Purpose of Job

This position will provide support to the Health, Education, Advocacy Unit (HEAU) of the Consumer Protection Division, which assists consumers who are having disputes with their health plans and with billing problems in the healthcare marketplace. Job responsibilities include: initial processing of consumer complaints (electronic and paper), including referring to other agencies when appropriate; entering, validating, and maintaining complaint data in the HEAU's databases; creating and managing consumer complaint files for internal routing; generating reports from databases; written and oral communication with consumers, providers, carriers, referral entities, and other stakeholders; typing and/or editing correspondence, memoranda and pleadings; managing the HEAU email box, including responding to HEAU emails, assisting with reporting requirements; receiving and screening calls; interacting with the public; processing incoming faxes; assisting with the closing of case files; copying and scanning; and assisting with the general administration of the HEAU.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: One year in administrative or professional work.

Note: 
1. Applicants may substitute graduate education for the required experience.
2. Applicants may substitute additional relevant experience for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education, for up to two years of required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience using MS Word and database programs. 
2. Knowledge or work experience in health insurance and medical billing.
