Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this Health Officer is to direct and management the activities of the County Health Department. The County Health Officer assesses community health needs, plans, develops, implements, directs, coordinates, evaluates and provides leadership in a variety of public health programs; coordinates programmatic activities with federal, state and local agencies; enforces laws and regulations that protect the health and safety of the public; monitors for, investigates and controls outbreaks of disease; informs the public about disease prevention and promotes healthy behaviors; and assures that the public health workforce remains competent. The Health Officer is also the executive officer and secretary of the County Boards of Health.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a master's degree in public health with two years of experience in public health or a master's degree in a closely related health field with at least five years of experience in the field of public health.

Candidate must also possess at least 5 years of experience in a leadership capacity and 2 years or more experience in directing programs with a broad scope and experience developing policy and procedures.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess knowledge of, or experience in, Environmental Health Services.

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
