Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as a doctoral laboratory scientist manager who plans, develops, and supervises scientific programs, monitors and updates operational procedures and lab services, oversees administration, and supervises personnel matters in the Division of Virology/Immunology and may direct one or more regional laboratories of the Laboratories Administration. This position also assists the Administration Director and Department as a consultant in public health virology, and immunology by rendering assistance to physicians, hospital staff, hospital and commercial laboratories, other organizations, and representatives of other local, State, and federal public health agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a doctoral degree from an accredited academic institution in microbiology, molecular biology, or related life science discipline and have at least 4 years of experience supervising a CLIA compliant clinical laboratory.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience working in a biosafety 3 laboratory and must be able to maintain medical clearance to wear an N95/PAPR respirator. 
  • Experience proposing, developing, monitoring and reviewing grants.
Preference will be given to candidates who can qualify under the federal CMS regulations (42 CFR § 493.1443) to function as an off-site clinical laboratory director for one of the MDH regional laboratories performing high complexity testing.

This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. A resume must accompany your application.
