Introduction

This is a full benefits full-time position with the Office of Administrative Hearings located at 11101 Gilroy Road, Hunt Valley, MD 21031. The Fiscal Accounts Clerk Trainee is an entry level position that is responsible for reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting, and balancing financial transactions. There is opportunity for growth within this position.  The starting salary is $34,884 (State salary guidelines do apply for current state employees.)

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this job is recording and processing of filing fees and assisting in various accounting functions. Major responsibilities include recording filing fees, verifying accuracy of information, preparing and transporting (when needed) daily deposits, aiding with processing of invoices, reconciliation of fees, copying and filing reports, and various other accounting functions as needed. Researching discrepancies in totals and data entered by retrieving and examining records for miscalculations or posting errors. Contacting proper agency when questions arise regarding data. Summarizing numerical data using computer programs or calculator for use in the preparation of financial records.

POSITION DUTIES

Some (but not all) duties include:

  • Data entry of fees collected from appellants who are requesting a hearing with our agency.
  • Verification of the accuracy of inputted data and accuracy of exceptions that generated by the system.
  • Generates and distributes appropriate fee reports.
  • Prepares bank deposits and transports to the bank in accordance with established security procedures.
  • Assists in processing invoices, reconciliation of fees, inputting refund data and other accounting functions as needed.
  • Performs various clerical duties as needed such as filing, copying, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: None

Notes:

1.  Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Financial Clerical/Financial Technicians classifications or Financial Clerical/Finance Technician specialty codes in the Financial field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification below to be considered. Please include clear and specific information on your application regarding this qualification:

- Three months experience in using computer programs for data entry.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. Please include clear and specific information on your application regarding this qualification:

- Six months experience in accounting, bookkeeping or financial transactions.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
