Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide liaison services to the various Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and other administrations, long term care, acute hospital, hospice and home health provider community with matters related to claims payments. This position functions within a Call Center environment and will serve as a primary information resource for the provider community and its fiscal representatives that make inquiries and register complaints regarding paper billing policy and procedures affecting payment of claims. This position is responsible for applying and interpreting Medical Assistance regulations and policies regarding fee for claims payment facility inpatient and outpatient services covered by the Program. This position will also resolve and process complex paper claim problems related to claims nonpayment errors. In addition, this position must be able to exercise a significant degree of independence of action and decision-making with the ability to communicate with managers, various MDH/DHS administrations/units, providers and vendors as well as other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary.

This position may operate in a hybrid manner, meaning job duties will be performed both remotely and on-site (e.g., 80% remote, 20% onsite), based on the designated telework schedule/plan that best fits the unit and or otherwise directed by the Appointing Authority as well as other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of clerical experience applying policies in a medical care, health insurance or federal or State entitlement program.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional general clerical experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience with Medicaid eligibility, health insurance billing, Federal/State health insurance program policies, claims billing, eligibility/enrollment policies with health insurance programs, and customer service.
