Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this position is to provide medical and preventative services to patients, supervise lower-level Nurse Practitioners and manage school-based wellness center services. This position plans, develops, implements and evaluates assigned programs; plans, develops, revises, implements and evaluates policies and procedures; and prepares and monitors program budgets.

The position also provides medical consultation for child and adolescent clinical programs operated within the Health Department; establishes and implements clinical guidelines, policies and procedures to assist with program development, implementation and evaluation; and plans, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the work of lower-level Nurse Practitioners and support staff. This position works collaboratively with the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing and other staff both within the Bureau of Health Services and outside the Bureau.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife.

Experience: Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife classification or Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired qualifications include:

  • Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Three years of experience post-graduation providing comprehensive health care to a pediatric population
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience with electronic health records
  • Experience with quality assurance/quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience leading and managing a team
  • Experiencing developing and managing program plans and budgets

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  A copy of your license or license number must accompany your application.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
