POSITION DUTIES

The Deputy Chief Forensic Investigator can perform all duties of the Forensic Investigator and the Forensic Investigator-Lead. A Deputy Chief Investigator may assume some duties of the Chief Forensic Investigator as specified. The Deputy Chief Forensic Investigator will supervise City Forensic Investigators and County Forensic Investigator Vendors.

Job duties include: In accordance with national practice standards and OCME policies and procedures, accurately and thoroughly performs death investigations. In a cost effective manner, manage forensic investigator staffing for Baltimore City and 23 counties to ensure death investigation services are provided to the State, in a timely manner, 24 hours, 7 days a week. Manage statewide transport system. Identify educational needs of internal and external customers including but not limited to forensic investigators, police and fire departments, hospitals staff, and funeral directors. Assesses, develops and implements strategies to streamline workflow to improve quality and ensure effective use of resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Seven years experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university and three years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours for each year of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess ABMDI Board Certification.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following:
  • Associates degree or higher in Health Sciences, Police Science, or Forensics from an accredited college or university; and,
  • Three years of experience in death investigation.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
