UI Benefit Professional I
MD Unemployment Insurance Claims and Adjudication Centers
An UI Professional I is a contractual position. This entails working in one of the Claim Centers within the Division of Unemployment Insurance involving obtaining detailed, technical information from claimants in order to establish and process unemployment insurance claims, and to detect potentially disqualifying unemployment insurance issues.
Adjudicate potentially disqualifying Unemployment Insurance (UI) issues in accordance with established guidelines to provide high quality customer focused services that regulate the distribution of unemployment insurance benefits to support the economic stability of the state
UI Tax Professional
Ensure compliance with State Unemployment Insurance Law as a Contributions Specialist, responsible for contacting liable employers to collect delinquent U. I. reports and payments of taxes, interest and/or penalties. Determine the liability of employers to pay Maryland Unemployment Insurance Contributions. Service all employers whether liable and/or not liable. Investigate and respond to employer inquires concerning their accounts.
Experience: Four years of experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other program.
1. Employees previously hired through contracts by the agency as Intermittent IU Associates, Intermittent IU Specialists, Contributions Associates or Contributions Specialists and are currently performing the full range of UI Professional I duties and responsibilities may meet the minimum qualifications for appointment to merit system positions in this classification.
2. Candidates may substitute a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for up to four years of the required experience.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
