POSITION DUTIES

The Maintenance Mechanic Sr. job is an advanced level of work in the skilled services. This job is a non-licensed, proficiently skilled position in the areas of plumbing, HVAC, and other maintenance trades. The main purpose of this role is to provide a safe and clean environment for patients, residents, and staff. The Maintenance Mechanic Sr. is responsible for maintaining and executing PM's repairing or replacing components of water, sewer, compressed air, steam, building structure systems, and performs other duties as assigned. This position may require the operation of a State vehicle for snow removal and other maintenance tasks/projects.

NOTICE: Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Certain Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Employees

Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff at the Maryland Department of Health’s CMS certified health care facilities are required to receive either a first or single COVID-19 dose and provide proof of their vaccination status by January 29, 2022.

If selected for this position, candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination status or have an approved religious or medical exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field for up to three years of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience in the following:

-- working in an electronic work order system
-- managing and closing out tickets
-- performing installs, drywall repairs, minor plumbing, and equipment repair

The desired candidate should also possess a Maryland State Driver's license, as the position requires the use of a State vehicle.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
