Introduction
The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual

Main Purpose of Job
School psychologists support students at all levels, from early
childhood education to high school, to learn and teachers' ability to teach.
They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children
and youth succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. This
position will partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other
professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments
that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.
POSITION DUTIES
This is an 11-month position, during which time the School
Psychologist is responsible for providing direct diagnostic/assessment and
counseling services to MSD students, participating in Individualized Education
Program (IEP) meetings, and providing professional consultation and training to
school staff and families. While based in Frederick, this position will
be expected to provide services on the Columbia Campus one or two days per
week. The school psychologist sits on a number of school teams and committees
including the Admissions Review Team (ART), Autism Committee, Threat Assessment
Team and the Research Review Committee. Additionally, the School Psychologist
maintains communication with members of FCAT and other school personnel
regarding student mental health needs and services. The position is
supervised by the school’s Director of Mental Health and Behavioral Support
Services but may supervise school psychology and counseling interns and
practicum students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Master’s Degree in School Psychology or related field is
required.
School Psychologists must be credentialed by the state in which
they work. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) School
Psychologist Certificate is required (or the ability to obtain in a specific
time).
Experience working with students who are D/deaf or hard of
hearing.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
Must be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and written
English. Knowledge of Deaf community is required. Must also be able to
conceptualize and assess complex learning issues/cases and clearly communicate
findings with members of the IEP team.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at
their own expense (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560 – 5-568)
